651 An Audit of Negative Appendectomy Rate at A District General Hospital in the UK

Abstract Aim There is significant variation in management of acute appendicitis across the UK. Despite advancements imaging modalities, still a clinical diagnosis. The primary aim this study was to determine negative appendectomy rate (NAR) and secondary look for results hospital readmission case normal appendix. Method It retrospective analysis all patients admitted with suspicion from Jan 2018 April 2019. For data collection medical record used. Information about patient demographic details, blood results, outcome, operative findings, histology appendix if removed, collected. Patients having appendectomy, admission calculated. Results Total 517 were suspected only 45.6% (n = 236) underwent surgery. Females=52.1%, Males 47.9%. Mean age 31 years. NAR 10.6% 25). (Females= 9.3%, Males=1.3%), 8.4% female below 35 years age. divided into 3 groups (Normal NA, Uncomplicated UA, complicated CA). statistically difference inflammatory markers between groups. In NA group 17/25 prior suggested 7/17 patients. Post 20%, them females, gynecology opinion sought them. Conclusions at 10.6%, comparable national database. more common young females due range differential diagnoses.
